Relentless Dead, a card from Shadows Over Innistrad, a set for Magic: The Gathering. With this victory, the sun can be seen rising behind the Zombie who got through first. Relentless Dead is the result of plenty of hard work to get through that stained-glass window from Endless Ranks of the Dead. Endless Ranks of the Dead is one of those cards that people remember fondly from that set, so much so that a card was printed that had a fairly direct reference to it in its art. In the original Innistrad set, there was one card that absolutely evoked a feeling of fright that couldn't be compared to. Her fate was tragic, but many prefer to remember her in this way, both in-world and in real life as well. With stunning artwork by Jason Chan, Avacyn, Angel of Hope is a realm-shakingly vital character for the plane of existence known as Innistrad and for the Magic Multiverse as a whole.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope, a legendary creature card from Avacyn Restored, a set for Magic: The Gathering. Avacyn, Angel of Hope is an extremely iconic legendary creature from the set, as its namesake, and her visage is a wonderful embodiment of victory over adversity. Avacyn Restored's Avacyn, Angel of HopeĪvacyn Restored, the third set from the Innistrad block, brought forth into the public imagination a figure of extreme hope, inspiration, and, most relevant to this article, a sense of triumph as well. While they may not have won yet, they are assured that it is in their grasp, and sometimes that's all that matters. Illustrated by the incomparable Peter Mohrbacher, Drogskol Captain as depicted appears to inspire its army to reach for that aforementioned victorious triumph. Drogskol Captain, a card from Dark Ascension, a set for Magic: The Gathering. But Drogskol Captain, the entry we chose for Dark Ascension, with its skeletal grin and its combative nature, felt like a good choice in a set where triumph is so close, but far away enough that Humans could not possibly fathom reaching for it. With a bit of creative improvisation, these tips should get you on your way.At first, we were hesitant to include Spirits or Zombies in this article, as they're dead and triumph seems to be an alien concept to those with literally nothing to lose but their soul/body (this comes up again with our entry for Shadows Over Innistrad). This document also contains guidelines for adapting the Curse of Strahd adventure to set it in Innistrad. This document is designed to help you turn the book’s adventure hooks and story seeds into a resource for your campaign with a minimum of changes to the fifth edition D&D rules. An abundance of lore about Innistrad can be found on the Magic website. Consider that book to be a useful resource in creating your Innistrad campaign, but not strictly necessary. The starting point for this document was The Art of Magic: The Gathering - Innistrad. All this meant that I turned my attention pretty quickly to the next installment, Plane Shift: Innistrad!

I had already finished writing The Art of Magic: The Gathering - Innistrad, at the same time that Curse of Strahd, a horror-themed adventure for Dungeons & Dragons, was on the shelves. Abandoned by their angels and hunted by vampires, all the Stensians can do is endure the unending dusk.īy the time Plane Shift: Zendikar saw the light of day, the game and story of Magic: The Gathering had moved on from Zendikar and started the tale of Shadows over Innistrad. Avacyn and Sigarda offer scant hope to his grim subjects. His bloodline is small and mostly irrelevant to the larger world, but in the outland valleys of Stensia, he is the ultimate master. The lord of this bleak, remote part of Stensia’s outland valleys is Strefan Maurer, who drank angel’s blood alongside Edgar Markov and Olivia Voldaren centuries ago. Wisps of thick fog twine amid the trunks of black pines in the Somberwald, thick bogs suck dead trees slowly down into their murky depths, and dusky pastureland provides scant sustenance to flocks of scrawny sheep. Stoic and enduring, the people of Stensia huddle in their stone-crafted villages - Shadowgrange, Krezk, Lammas - built against the mountainsides. The jagged spires of Maurer Estate jut up from the peaks, keeping silent watch over the isolated valley.
